Security of Multi chip ICs & Security Chiplets with Caliptra Building a Hardware Root of Trust
Matt Holdrege, Research Fellow, Microchip
Heterogeneous Integration (HI) enables multiple chiplets from various vendors to be combined into a single package, improving scalability and yield for advanced applications like AI, mobile and high-performance computing while maintaining yield for advanced process technologies. While widely adopted and many products have been already out, the security of these multi-chip architectures is still developing, with new vulnerabilities emerging due to interconnected components and global supply chains. As a result, system and security architects need guidance on potential risks and mitigation strategies. The Foundation Chiplet System Architecture (FCSA) initiative aims to provide such guidance, and the discussion highlights both the benefits and security challenges of multi-chip designs. This talk will cover security both positive and negative aspects of multi-chip architectures incorporating both FCSA and the security chapter the of the Heterogenous Integration Roadmap.
