High Performance Droplet
A droplet (or SoC solution) is not a physical component but a soft electronic deliverable – a GDS (Graphic Design System) file of the finished chip or chiplet. The droplet includes everything needed for manufacturing: the final macro, all ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) protections, and the complete set of IP cores. It is essentially the blueprint for the chip, provided to customers for manufacturing on their end. Unlike chiplets, droplets enable flexibility in fabrication and allow customers to integrate our design into their own production workflows.
A droplet is conceptually similar to an IP core, which is a portion of an SoC solution provided as a GDS, typically in the form of a hard macro. IP cores are licensed to customers for an upfront license fee and royalties tied to production volumes. Similarly, droplets are complete designs, delivered in soft file form, and include all necessary components for integration into a customer’s production flow. However, droplets extend beyond the scope of an IP core, offering an entire finished chip or chiplet design that can be manufactured independently by the customer.
